An extensive 60-day voyage around Australia was terminated in the wake of the fatal incident of an elderly female passenger who was abandoned by the vessel on a remote coastal location.

The elderly woman had been trekking on the remote island with other travelers from the Coral Adventurer, but separated from the group for a break. The ship sailed away leaving her and returned later that day after the ship staff discovered the passenger was not present.

A major hunt found her remains the subsequent day.

Officials are investigating the tragedy, together with investigators and the medical examiner.

The CEO of the cruise operator said that passengers and personnel on the ship were told that the remainder of the cruise had been called off due to the "sad loss and previous engine troubles".

In a statement, he mentioned that travelers would be issued a total repayment, and said the company was working "to coordinate the return journeys of the passengers via chartered flights".
