The former Brazilian leader has been taken into custody after authorities found he posed a concrete flight risk while under home confinement.
The former head of state was found guilty of planning a military coup in last fall and sentenced more than over two decades in prison, but he was staying under confinement pending appeals.
High Court Judge Justice Moraes said the action to imprison the elderly politician was a safety action after recent developments came to light.

His offspring, FlĂ¡vio Bolsonaro, who works as a congressional representative, called for a meeting of his followers near his father's house to take place on Saturday night.
The senator wrote on digital networks on the previous day: Will you battle for your homeland, or observe everything from your phone there on your sofa? I call on you to battle with us."
He said the vigil would be so backers could "pray for his physical condition and for the reestablishment of democratic governance in our land."

The former president was convicted of orchestrating a plot aimed at retaining his authority after he was defeated in the 2022 election to his left-wing rival, Luiz InĂ¡cio Lula da Silva.
